Cleaning & Storage
How do I clean the Ninja Sizzle Grill and griddle?
- Unplug the unit from the wall outlet before cleaning.
- To clean the main unit and the control panel, wipe them clean with a damp cloth.
- The Slotted Lid is dishwasher safe. The grill grate and/or griddle plates are not dishwasher safe.
- If food residue is stuck on the grill plate or griddle palte , place them in a sink filled with warm, soapy water and allow to soak.
- Air-dry or towel-dry all parts thoroughly after cleaning.
How should I store the grill?
It is recommended to store the unit with a grill or griddle plate and lid installed. If you have an extra cooking plate it can be stored on top of the grill.
It is not recommended to store other items on top of your grill.
Cooking Questions
Can I use parchment paper in the Ninja Foodi Grill?
No, we do not recommend using parchment paper in the Sizzle Pro XL.
Can I use aluminum foil in the Ninja Foodi grill?
No, we do not recommend using aluminum foil in the Sizzle Pro XL.
Do I need to defrost frozen foods before grilling them?
Yes, for best results, defrost food before grilling them.
Do I need to let my food rest?
After grilling meat, let it rest for 5–10 minutes before cutting it. As it rests, it will retain more moisture and stay juicy.
What type of oil should I use while grilling?
We recommend using one of the following oils when grilling: almond oil, avocado oil, canola oil, grape seed oil, or vegetable oil.
Note: Using olive oil will result in a higher smoke output.
Why is the unit emitting smoke?
When using the the Sizzle Pro XL Griddle + Grill always select the recommended temperature setting. Recommended settings can be found on the on-board Cook-Time Sticker and in the Quick Start Guide/Inspiration Guide. Make sure the splatter lid is installed. We also recommend that you use one of the following oils when grilling: almond oil, avocado oil, canola oil, grape seed oil, or vegetable oil.
My food is burned or overcooked.
Do not add food until the unit is fully preheated. For best results, check progress throughout cooking, and remove food when desired level of brownness has been achieved.
How do I develop char on my food?
Here are a few tips to develop char on your grilled foods:
- Make sure your grill is preheated before placing food in the unit. Preheating the grill ensures it is hot enough to create char.
- Ensure the grilling temperature for your food is the proper temperature. You can find recommended grill temperatures for different food types are in the instruction booklet.
- Let your food cook long enough to develop char.
- Make sure you have applied enough rub or seasoning to your food. We recommend using a low density, coarse ground kosher salt rub. This allows you to season liberally without over-salting, and results in a better char.
My food is sliding. What can I do to prevent that from happening?
For best results, let the unit completely preheat before cooking. Allowing the unit to preheat completely will help food stay in place on the cooking surface when first added.
What temperatures correlate to High, Medium, and Low?
- High: 500°F
- Medium: 375°F/400°F
- Low: 325°F
Grease related Questions
What is the capacity of the grease trap?
The grease trap on both the grill and griddle plates is desinged to hold the grease from two 1lb packages of bacon.
Why is grease not draining into the grease trap?
The grill and griddle plates are designed with a slight forward slope to encourage grease drainage. Any excess grease we recommend pushing it to the grease trap with a spatula.
What can I do to avoid grease splattering?
Grease splatter is known to happen on food loads with a larger content of fat. For best results, cook with the lid closed to reduce splatter.
How to Operate
How do I know if the unit is on?
When the unit is powered on, the flame icon will be illuminated--red.
Do I need to preheat the unit?
For best grilling results, allow the unit to fully preheat before cooking. At the end of preheat, the unit will beep and read "Add Food". Adding food before the unit has finished preheating will cause the unit to take longer to come up to temperature and can potentially cause food to overcook.
Will the outside of the unit get hot?
Although the outside of the unit will heat up during cooking, the control panel and lid handle will remain cool to touch.
How do I set the temperature?
Press the "Temp" button and use the dial to select temperature setting (Grill/Griddle Mode) or custom temperature between 250-500°F (Custom Temp).
How do I set the timer?
It is recommended to use an external timer (not included) when cooking on the Ninja Sizzle Pro XL Griddle + Grill.
How do I set the timer?
Press the "Time" button and use the dial to select time.
Does the unit automatically pause when I open it?
No, the unit does not pause when the lid is opened.
Can I adjust the temperature once the unit is running?
Yes, you can adjust the temperature at any point during cooking by pressing "Temp" and adjusting with the dial.
Should I place ingredients on the unit before or after preheating?
Always add ingredients after the unit has fully preheated. When preheat is complete, the unit will beep and read "Add Food".
How do I install and remove the removeable slotted lid?
After allowing the unit to cool, remove the lid by opening it until it is approximately vertical. Then lift the lid straight up out of the hinge base.
To install the lid, hold it vertically with the handle facing up and the hinge pivots over the hinge base. Ensure that the flat sections of the hinge pivots are oriented vertically. Lower the lid hinge pivots into the hinge base, then close the lid.
It looks like there is flashing (or sparks) inside my grill when I turn the dial on or off.
This is expected behavior and does not affect the product quality, cooking output or expected life of the grill. The grill is safe to use.
Why is my grill taking a long time to preheat?
The Sizzle Pro XL takes between 7-9 minutes to preheat. This is designed to give deliver the best cooking performance.
Why can't I use the griddle without the lid?
The lid is a key component to preheating and cooking performance. Make sure to always cook using the lid.
Noise and Sounds
Why is the unit making a "ticking" noise when heating?
This noise is normal and is caused by the metal components expanding during heating.
Parts and Accessories
Are the coated accessories nonstick?
Yes, the grill plate and/or griddle plate are all nonstick and have a ceramic coating.
How can I prevent my coating from scratching?
For best results, handwash the grill and griddle plates to maximize longevity and prevent scratching. Use soap and warm water to clean.
The coating is ceramic. Does that mean it is PTFE free?
Ninja products are rigorously tested to make sure it complies with our high-quality standards, FDA regulations, and additional jurisdictional requirements that may exist. The ceramic coating is 100% PTFE free.

The Grill and Griddle plates are 19.1"(48.6cm) wide and 10.5" (26.7cm) deep.
What is the exterior of the unit made of?
The base of the unit is made of a high-temperature plastic and powder coated steel metal. The Splatter lid is made of Stainless Steel and high-temp plastic.
What is the weight of this grill?
The grill weighs 23.15 pounds.
The metal under the heater plate is discolored. What can I do to prevent it from happening again?
Over time, the metal plate under the heating element will start to discolor. This is normal and does not affect cooking performance.
The plate is hot to the touch
The plate gets very hot during normal use. After the cook cycle, it is best to let the plate cool until the "Hot" warning on the display turns off.
Why is the unit emitting a slight burning smell on first use?
During first use, it is normal for the plate to have a slight burning smell. This will go away quickly after first use.
There is glue residue stuck on my griddle plate. What is the best way to remove it safely?
If there is glue residue stuck on the griddle plate, wash the plate with warm water and soap to remove.
